The football team “Real Refugees” comes from the desire of a group of young migrants passionate for football, looking for aggregative moments to feel part of a group and practice a sport linked to a hobby that already existed before their arrival in Italia.

For this reason, Association Francesco Realmonte, in collaboration with the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Milano and Cattolica per lo sport, was therefore able to give life to a training made of young migrants.
The goal is to develop in the teenagers both external and internal factors of resilience through sport, like the learning of rules, socialization and emotional strenghtening. Sport enables indeed to connect with its inner self, consenting to see first-hand its own value, weaknesses and aspirations. It is also a tool that enables to create helping relationships, comunicate and project a future with the teenagers, who deploy both individual and collective energies individuali promoting resilience.

The team is trained by Fadi Albitar, a Sirian refugee who were playing as goalkeeper in the under-18 national team in Siria, before the eruption of the civil war, and Simone Mariano, already coaching the football team of Università Cattolica di Milano.

Thanks to the partnership with ACSI (Associazione Centri Sportivi Italiani), the Real Refugees has participated to a charity game during the conclusive day of ACSI Football League's national tournament, on May 25th 2025 at the Allianz Stadium of Torino.
For the team, it was a first opportunity to encounter and confront with the other players from other trainings, in addition to experiment in a symbolic place of the Italian football.
